With the start of the new school year, NBPD knows that many kids will be hopping on their bikes, as they ride to and from school. Since bicyclists share the road with cars, trucks, motorcycles, pedestrians and other cyclists, it is important to ensure that our kids are equipped to operate their bikes safely.
NBPD has developed a Bicycle Safety Guide for parents.
Topics include:
–Be a “Roll Model.”
–Deciding who rides with your child.
–Deciding where your child can ride.
–Distractions can be deadly.
–Sharing the road: same roads, same rules, same rights.
–High-risk bicycling situations for children.
–Quick tips for bike safety.

Eastbluff Traffic Improvements
Numerous Eastbluff residents have reported safety concerns about traffic violations occurring in and around Eastbluff including speeding, unsafe stops, close calls with pedestrians and vehicles, bikes and e-bikes. Former HOA Board President Ron Rubino met with the Newport Beach Police Department and City Traffic Engineer to request improvements to signage and traffic control measures to provide more awareness and protections for our residents.
The 2023-24 HOA Board of Directors was pleased to announce that additional traffic management and speed limit signs have been installed hroughout Eastbluff HOA, long with painted crosswalks and speed limits on the streets. Even a new safety sign now alerts drivers to the presence of children at the park.
As a reminder, the speed limit in Eastbluff is 25 mph, with recommended 15 mph at a couple of sharp curves.
Attached is an illustration of the locations for the new signs and pavement markings.
The Board would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the members of City Staff and leaders who worked with Ron to make this improvement a reality.
Newport Beach Fire Department (NBFD)
announces Fall CERT training series
NBFD is gearing up for their Fall Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training series, offering local residents and folks who work in the city of Newport Beach an invaluable opportunity to enhance their emergency preparedness skills. With the increasing importance of community resilience, these courses are designed to equip participants with the knowledge and tools to effectively respond in the event of a disaster.
Participants will engage in a series of hands-on training sessions covering essential emergency response topics such as disaster preparedness, fire safety, basic medical operations, and light search and rescue. The NBFD encourages all community members to register for this course and take the first step towards becoming a vital part of their community’s emergency response team.

NBPD Mobile Café ~ Saturday, September 7, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Crystal Cove Shopping Center (7845 East Coast Highway)
Community members come together with police
in an informal space to discuss community issues
and build relationships.
NBPD divides the city into four separate areas. Each area has an assigned lieutenant, who acts as an area commander. Eastbluff is in Area 3, along with Bonita Canyon, Big Canyon, Newport Center, Harbor Cove, Bayside Village, Island Lagoon, Park Newport, Promontory Point, and Balboa Island. It is home to the Fashion Island shopping center and the surrounding businesses and hotels in Newport Center.

Newport Notified is the Newport Beach Police Department's alert system for disseminating general and emergency information directly from the Police Department to the community. It is used to notify residents and subscribers about issues impacting safety, such as traffic advisories, crime alerts, and community updates. It is also used for emergency notifications related to power outages, evacuations, tsunamis, and other hazards where public safety is at risk.

September is National Preparedness Month
The Newport Beach Fire and Police Departments encourage community members to “start a conversation” to become better prepared for all disasters and emergencies.
If you are new to emergency planning, or could use a refresher, a great place to start is the “Newport Beach Ready” Emergency Preparedness Guide. The guide contains critical information on water and food storage, building an emergency kit, evacuation checklists, basic first aid, animal preparedness and tips on what to do in specific events. Fraud & Scams On Social Media
A trend we have seen lately involves reports of fraud and scams that started on social media (most commonly Facebook). Here's a link to an article from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) on scams that start on social media: CLICK HERE.
· Limit who can see your posts and information on social media. All platforms collect information about you from your activities on social media but visit your privacy settings to set some restrictions.
· If you get a message from a friend about an opportunity or an urgent need for money, call them. Their account may have been hacked or cloned - especially if they ask you to pay by cryptocurrency, gift card, or wire transfer. That’s how scammers ask you to pay.
· If someone appears on your social media and rushes you to start a friendship or romance, slow down. Read about romance scams. And never send money to someone you haven’t met in person.
· Before you buy, check out the company. Search online for its name plus “scam” or “complaint.”
